Join the Institute for Improved Health Outcomes (IIHO) as a Senior Data Warehouse and ETL Developer, where your work will directly impact health care delivery across Alberta. You’ll design robust data architectures and ETL pipelines to power decision-making, research, and innovation in patient care.

What You’ll Do

  • Build and maintain ETL pipelines (SSIS, T-SQL) for ingesting structured and unstructured data
  • Architect and optimize data models and warehouses for performance and scalability
  • Work closely with analysts and project team members to understand and meet data needs
  • Ensure compliance with data governance and privacy standards (HIA, PIPA, etc.)

Core Responsibilities

  • ETL & Data Integration (30%): Design, build, and optimize ETL pipelines using SSI and T-SQL to ensure accurate, timely data flows.
  • Architecture & Governance (20%): Define data architecture frameworks, enforce data governance standards, and support compliance.
  • Data Modeling & Design (20%): Develop scalable, normalized schemas for transactional and analytical systems.
  • Performance Tuning (10%): Monitor and optimize database and ETL performance across large datasets.
  • Stakeholder Collaboration (10%): Translate business needs into technical requirements and work closely with analysts and project members.
  • Other (10%): Prepare and maintain documentation, mentor and educate staff, and ensure data security and compliance with relevant regulations and industry standards.

Required Qualifications

  • 5+ years of hands-on experience with Microsoft SQL Server (SSIS, T-SQL, database optimization)
  • Proven experience designing data warehouses and managing ETL pipelines
  • Strong understanding of data modeling concepts (3NF, SCD, star/snowflake schemas)
  • Solid understanding of data governance and privacy (especially in healthcare data)
  • Experience working with large datasets (millions to tens of millions of rows or larger)

Preferred Experience

  • Experience with clinical or health systems data (e.g. hospital discharge, labs, electronic medical records)
  • Visualization with Power BI, SSRS, or Tableau
  • Experience with Oracle, MySQL or other RDBMS
  • Experience working with unstructured or semi-structured data
