The Institute for Improved Health Outcomes (IIHO) is a highly respected, not-for-profit healthcare consultancy firm whose strength is turning knowledge into better care for people across the health system. The Institute uses the best evidence available to develop innovative solutions to problems within the health care system and monitors the impact of these innovations on the quality of care delivered.

Our work is supported by partnerships with government health agencies, universities, health practitioners, researchers, non-profits, and private donors. The Institute operates a robust data repository that integrates data from across health systems. Additionally, our services include designing, implementing and evaluating evidence-based continuums of care, brokering the relationships required to advance better outcomes, providing project and research management services, and conducting advanced analytics in support of our partners.

Nature of Work

Reporting to the Projects Director, the Project Manager will assume the management and accountabilities for a specified portfolio of projects. The role requires extensive engagement and collaboration with a broad array of stakeholders, including medical professionals, health administrators, and government agencies.

Day travel throughout Alberta is required, with occasional overnight travel a possibility. ABJHI employs all full-time staff on recurring one-year employment contracts pending major client contract renewals.

Responsibilities

Operating within a multidisciplinary team environment and supported by clinical design, measurement and evaluation services, the Project Manager’s responsibilities include:

Project Planning

  • Business development
  • Developing project proposals, scope statements, budgets, project plans and status reports
  • Establishing and managing committees & working groups
  • Assessment of operational impacts
  • Determination and disbursement of resources required for project delivery.

Project Execution

  • Responsibility and accountability for project execution
  • Recording progress against milestones and deliverables
  • Tracking project expenditures against budget
  • Reporting of findings and outcomes with key stakeholders

Coordination of Project Activities

  • Identify existing business and patient process flows:
  • Document current services delivery
  • Document current resource use and cost expenditures
  • Compare new care standards to existing services:
  • Develop systematic evaluation processes
  • Develop measurement frameworks to guide data collection, analyses and reporting
  • Evaluate new care continuum standards
  • Ensure all actions are aligned with the Institute’s strategic direction, ethics, values, and professional standards
  • Practice financial stewardship through responsible fiscal management and track project progress against budget
  • Commit to sustaining and growing the Institute, its vision, values and contribution to the well being of the community
  • Effectively promote the vision and mission of the Institute to all stakeholders, including the public
  • Continually enhance the Institute’s public profile, image and reputation by being visible in the community

Qualifications/ Expertise

Bachelor’s degree required. A degree in a health-related field and/or an MSc or PhD is considered an asset. A minimum of 3 years’ experience in project management is required. Health-related work experience is considered an asset. The successful candidate will demonstrate effective and strong organizational, communication and problem-solving skills and the ability to multi-task and work in a dynamic environment with competing deadlines. Furthermore, they must possess the ability to exercise tact, discretion, and good judgment. Equivalencies of education and experience may be considered.
