$3.3 Billion Economic Burden in Alberta

Andrea Emrick is ABJHI’s Project Manager on the care path design. “The burden of OA and RA is increasing as Alberta’s population lives longer and grows more obese and less active physically,” she said. “Within a generation, more than one in four Albertans is expected to have one of these diseases.”

The total economic burden of OA and RA in Alberta, including the costs of direct health care and lost productivity, were estimated at $3.3 billion in 2010 based on national figures compiled by the Arthritis Alliance of Canada.
