Dr. Steven Boyd
Steven is Director of the McCaig Institute for Bone and Joint Health (MIBJH), a Cumming School of Medicine institute of research to discover breakthrough methods of preventing, diagnosing and treating musculoskeletal injury and disease. His participation in ABJHI’s board ensures the two institutes share knowledge and take advantage of opportunities to work collaboratively in improving treatment and care of people with bone and joint injury and disease.
Steven is also the Scientific Director of the MIBJH’s new Centre for Mobility and Joint Health at the University of Calgary, the only facility in the world that can integrate mobility, biomarker and imaging data to assess an individual’s bone and joint health. A professor in the Cumming School of Medicine’s Department of Radiology, Steven has cross appointments in the university’s Faculty of Kinesiology and the Schulich School of Engineering.
His research is in orthopaedic biomechanics focusing on the adaptive changes to tissues that occur following joint injury or disease with particular interest in bone. He has authored more than 100 papers, and is the Bob and Nola Rintoul Chair in Bone and Joint Research, the McCaig Professor in Joint Injury and Arthritis, and an Alberta Innovates – Health Solutions Senior Scholar.
