Studies have shown that orthotic insoles can reduce pain for some osteoarthritis sufferers, while being ineffective for others. University of Calgary researcher Ryan Lewinson believes it’s because the orthotics haven’t been fit to match the individual’s unique biomechanics. He wants to find out if orthotics prescribed to match an individual’s scientifically determined biomechanics could help reduce pain and maintain mobility in people with osteoarthritis.
