Expression of Interest for New ABJHI Initiative: Alberta Bone and Joint Health Registry
ABJHI is pleased to announce the launch of a new initiative—the development of an Alberta Bone and Joint Health Registry (‘ABJHR’). The ABJHR will build the technical platform to enable an integrated dataset to create new research, knowledge and innovations to improve Albertans’ quality of life and function.
Over the timespan of ABJHI’s history, health care professionals, researchers, academics and policy makers alike have contributed to a provincial bone and joint data repository that ABJHI maintains to ensure bone and joint care remains on a path of continuous improvement. ABJHI works with Alberta’s health professionals, researchers, policy makers, and patients to close the gap between what we learn and what we do in bone and joint health care.
While ABJHI currently has a robust data repository, data is isolated to a specific area of bone and joint care within Alberta. Following suit on continuous improvement, ABJHI is undertaking development of a comprehensive data registry, the ABJHR. The ABJHR will build partnerships with both public and private health providers, with data gathered from all clinical and patient sources that relate to bone and joint health; from injury or disease onset, through treatment and follow up, to full recovery of function and quality of life. This, in turn, will enable ABJHI and partners to develop predictive models that will ensure treatment is delivered more precisely, considering the individual needs and clinical requirements of each patient.
The ABJHR will be developed in modules, starting with shoulder care. ABJHI plans to have the full, comprehensive ABJHR launched by spring 2025.
ABJHI is currently running an Expression of Interest process for: Co-leads, the Registry Governance Committee and a Shoulder Expert Group. ABJHI is looking for representatives from across the province who are patients, clinicians, and/or researchers. Membership offers the opportunity to champion and advocate for better bone and joint health for all Albertans.
