Nature of Work

Reporting to the Director of Operations, the Data Visualization and Reporting Specialist performs data analysis and applies data visualization techniques to present health information and highlight different perspectives on key quality of care areas. The incumbent will participate with a small team of health data analysts in the following activities:

  • Quality improvement monitoring;
  • Analysis for specific projects and/or research studies;
  • Visualizing data and analyses for consumption by stakeholders of varied backgrounds
    (clinical, operational, research, lay person);
  • Project and program evaluations; and
  • Other analytic and reporting assignments as required.

The incumbent will be an integral team member that works collaboratively with stakeholders (internal and external to the organization) to understand program and organizational objectives, formulate analytic questions, participate in data analyses in collaboration with a small team of health data analysts, leverage analytics and data visualization tools to present information in a way that supports evidence-based decision making, and oversee design, development and maintenance of multiple reporting and data visualization products produced by the organization.

Qualifications/ Expertise

Experience and knowledge should include:

  • Post-secondary degree, preferably in Mathematics, Statistics, Data Analytics, Computer Science or related technical field;
  • Experience with reporting, data management, data analytics and visualization using market leading commercial and open source tools (e.g. Power BI, Tableau), including standard and ad-hoc reporting;
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, including experience presenting to audiences of variable background (technical, non-technical, executive, lay person);
  • Experience with large data sets, ability to write SQL queries to extract, review, and understand data;
  • Knowledge of visualization/dashboard design techniques for data analysis and presentation;
  • Creative thinker with strong analytical, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills;
  • Familiarity using various basic and intermediate analytical methods (e.g. ANOVA, linear and logistic regression, tests of significance, outlier detection); and
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with teams of people from diverse scientific and professional backgrounds.

The following would be an asset:

  • Familiarity with analysis and reporting using large health care data sets, including data set content, data manipulation, and data linking would be a significant asset;
  • Master’s degree preferably in Mathematics, Statistics, Data Analytics, Computer Science or related technical field;
  • Experience developing data visualizations using Microsoft Power BI;
  • Experience working with Microsoft SQL Server, SQL Server Analysis Services, SQL Server Reporting Services, and related tools;
  • Experience building and/or working with data cubes; and
  • Intermediate to expert level of familiarity with MS Excel.
